Vintage 1970s Gold-tone Metal Compass Button Sterling Silver Dangle Earrings

These earrings were hand fabricated from sterling silver sheet metal. They feature vintage gold-tone metal buttons from the 1970s in an ornate compass design. The buttons are bezel set in fine silver. The metal buttons are hollow so don't add much weight. I removed the hook from the back of the buttons and filed them flat so they would sit in a bezel. Although the buttons sat flat, they would still move around in a bezel, so they were secured with a heavy duty adhesive. Sterling silver bead trim was added to the border setting. The metal was oxidized. Hung from hand fabricated sterling silver French wires.

The earrings (including ear wires) are 1.75" in length and .78" in width. They weigh 6.40 grams each.
